What Can Happen
to Me if I Don't Report?

  • You could be charged with a crime—and you could be prosecuted. Any mandated reporter who has a reasonable suspicion of child abuse or neglect and fails to report this suspicion is guilty of a misdemeanor. If a child is harmed, and the investigation reveals that you had a reasonable suspicion, but did not report it, you could be prosecuted.

  • You could also be held civilly liable, which means you could be sued on behalf of the child harmed.
