What if CPS Does Not Register My Report?

Sometimes a call cannot be registered and investigated by CPS because there is no information to suggest that a child has been abused or neglected. There may be, however, information to cause concern that a child is receiving poor care and a fear that abuse or neglect could occur. This child and family need primary prevention services.

As a health care provider, human service provider, educator, police officer, or child care provider, you are responsible for the primary prevention of child abuse and neglect. In your professional role, you work with families and children and are in a unique position to provide help before abuse or neglect occurs. Even when your call can’t be registered, there is always something you can do for the child and family.
